Croatia may have very few alpine ski resorts but the country has produced several FIS World Cup medalists and Olympians in the recent years. Brother and sister Ivica and Janica Kostelic have turned the spotlight on this small country nested between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea.
The most popular ski resort Sljeme (3,389 ft/1,033 m) is located just north of the capital Zagreb. It is the only FIS World Cup host mountain near a major metropolitan area. Sljeme is accessible by a twenty minute gondola ride and bus service.
Two smaller ski areas in Crotatia are Bjelolasica and Platak.
